Competitive Analysis

By ArcPM

Competitive analysis is the systematic evaluation of competing products — their strengths, weaknesses, positioning, and gaps — to inform your own strategy and differentiation.

The goal is not to copy competitors but to understand the landscape: what users already have, where those options fall short, and where a genuinely different position is available.

Done well, it produces evidence — not opinions — about where to compete and where not to. Done poorly, it becomes a feature checklist that pulls you toward sameness.

Example

Analysis might reveal that every competitor generates documents but none keeps them connected — pointing to traceability as a differentiator rather than another feature.

How ArcPM applies it

ArcPM turns competitive analysis into traceable evidence that informs positioning, requirements and product decisions throughout the Connected Product Graph.
